Poems of Springtime: The sweet and bitter

Poems of Springtime: The Sweet and Bitter Dear Reader,      I find myself thing two things when the month of spring comes to the stage of seasons: the sweet, and the bitter. Bitter, because the rising population of flora force my aching joints indoors as to not expire to the coming of pollen. Sweet, because I can finally buy in season cologne at the local hipster store, that only sells Cherry Blossom Flurry Mist this time of year. (You would not believe how hard it is to find cologne for machines. Most of the time I have to import it from Detroit.)     Below are a few poems that look onto these themes, and how it affects their day-to-day lives. I hope you enjoy them, or at the very least they give you solace, from one soul to another.  As always, best wishes! -Magic Typewriter Where did You Go?  By Tessa Zucker  Their never-ending laughter echoes through your mind. The smiles they made from ear to ear as soon as you walked in. Being in thei...

Watching Home Alone: Alone

Watching Home Alone: Alone   By Jada Ball           The first movie I watched this holiday season was Home Alone. It was Mid-December, and, like Kevin, I was having a rough start to the most ‘wonderful’ time of the year. College applications, work, planning to travel abroad for the first time (ironically to Paris), and my hectic home life led me to savor the time I had to watch my favorite Christmas movie. It wasn’t the first time I had seen the movie by myself–but this time it was different. I couldn’t remember the last time I was able to relax in peace. With no one home, I was left to fall into the magic of John Williams’s opening score. By the end, I had a lot more to take from a movie that has spawned a cash cow franchise; four takeaways that will guide me through this hectic holiday season and year.  1. Give Yourself Some Alone Time           If you have no idea what Home Alone is or if it’s been a while: the Mca...

Last Chance

Last Chance  By Jenna Ball (Agent Cruz, a tired looking woman in her late thirties, is on a flight to Prague. Bored, she searches for a movie, pulling it up on her seatback screen, and presses play.) Operator: Good afternoon, Agent Cruz. Best-Evil-Villain-Of-All-Time-Ian-Harkar™ has taken every world leader hostage at this year’s United Nations conference. He literally has the world under his tiny thumb. Seriously, how the heck did he get his baby sized hands on a shrink ray?! He has declared himself dictator of the universe, and demands the disbandment of all intelligence agencies, ordering their agents to pledge their loyalty to him. Otherwise the UN… (voice falters) Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to travel to the UN hall, and stop Harkar. The world is counting on you, Selena. Your regular team is waiting at a safe house in Prague. Agent Ethan Hunt has just taken a vacation, so he is not available. Thankfully, we replaced him with a new officer: Agent Jones....

Peculiar Photographs

Image
Peculiar Photographs     While my human host was packing our things for summer vacation (Hackensack, New Jersey is the best place to be this time of year) she came across something unusual in her closet.      Something she asked me to share before I traveled to my next dimension.     What she found was an old, worn photo album, containing bizarre photographs that I even surprised me. Some I believe to be real, the others fabricated. However, there is one that caught my attention. One that I'm not even sure how it is possible... Dracula Evil Twin Ghost Leaf Cousin It: Vacation Baby on a Car                 What in all of ink's name is this cute little creature doing in broad daylight?!? Was it banished from home? Does it need medical attention? Is it hitchhiking to Hackensack, New Jersey? Fear not, little one! Your aid has come! Now to find its location...     Until next tim...

May's Mysterious Restaurants

May's Mysterious Restaurants      I have something to confess, dear reader. These past few months spent in the fantasy dimension have left me rather bored. I do love my place of residence, don’t get me wrong! Only, I long for a new experience. There is a hunger in me, one that can only be sustained by the unknown. No genre can provide this better than that of the mystery, all secrets and plot twists included.       So, this month I say goodbye to all things fantasy, and travel to an unknown dimension. One that will hopefully provide the new stories I seek…      All of this talk of hunger has left me, well, hungry! Although I don’t eat the same “food” you humans do, I require new stories and ideas to survive. Why don’t we look at the unknown together? Below are some lovely suggestions* on where to eat if you are looking for a surprise in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Okami Hibachi Steakhouse Lisa Lorenzo Right at the front of...
